WHAT IS PALETTE WORK?

Palette work involves treating hair with some kind of glue to form flat sheets, which then can be cut into shapes. Often palette work hair is  used in pendants, brooches or lockets.

WHAT IS BASKET WEAVE?

Basket weave technique involves treating hair with some kind of glue to form flat sheets, which then can be cut into strips. The strips are then woven in a basket pattern. Often basket weave is placed into lockets, brooches or pendants.

WHAT IS TABLE WORK?

Table work allows long strands of hair to be woven into long tubes which may be formed into a neck or watch chain, a bracelet (matched bracelets, one worn on each wrist, were popular), rings or earrings. Specifically designed tables are used for this purpose, with round table tops that feature a small hole in the center. The hair is divided into strands; each strand attached to a bobbin weight at one end while all of the strands are tied together and attached to a counterweight at the other end. The counterweighted end is fed down through the hole in the table while the individual strands hang over the table’s edge, held in place by the bobbins. Patterns can create a seemingly endless variety of beautiful weaves.
